Sleeping bag pocket too small, but bag is still a good one

I read the earlier review about the sleeping bag pocket being too small, but bought this backpack anyway. Sure enough, you weren’t lying! As soon as I took the backpack out of the box, I grabbed my sleeping bag and tried to stuff it in there. After about 5 minutes of jockying it around, I did manage to BARELY get the thing zipped up. However, the sleeping bag I used is my summer bag. If I tried to stuff my winter bag in there, with bivy sack and stuff sack, there’s no way it would all fit. This can be a problem if you’re intending on doing a legitimate backpacking trip in high altitudes with cold weather. All this being said, I’m in the Army and I take a different approach to this issue than most civilian hikers probably do. In my opinion, you don’t need to have your sleeping bag available for quick access. The only time you use it is at night, when you’ll have time to dig in your bag and get it anyway. Since the sleeping bag pocket is too small, just throw your sleeping bag in the big compartment…this compartment is large enough to easily hold a winter bag. Use the sleeping bag compartment for more important items that you might actually need to access quickly (medical kit, rain gear, flashlight, signaling device, GPS, knife, etc.) Therefore, problem solved. No need to return the bag.Another negative I saw mentioned in a previous review is all the excess straps that hang loose. Not a problem…just get some 100mph tape and tie it all down. Too easy.
The rest of the pack seems to be quality. The material seems durable and there is a good deal of padding along the back and straps for a comfortable fit. Everything is adjustable so you won’t have any problems getting this backpack to fit all shapes and sizes of hikers. It also has a quickly accessible rain cover which will definitely come in handy during those suprise thunderstorms.
All in all, this pack seems to be pretty reasonable for the price you pay. I’m going to Colorado for a 3 day hike soon and will be taking this pack with me. I’ll update this review upon return to let you know how it holds up in the elements.
good bag, lots of pockets

I got this bag about a month ago and have used it twice since then- once at a music festival, once backpacking. I was able to fit my tent, clothes for 3 days, one jacket, one hoodie, one sweatshirt, and some food in the main compartment of the bag when I went backpacking, and I still had room left over. The pockets are GREAT- 3 zippered pockets, 3 mesh pockets, and 2 in the lid. My only complaints are that the zippers on the sleeping bag compartment are hard to open and close, and the compartment is a little small, but I have a larger mummy bag and was able to cram it in there.Great pack for that price!!!

I bought this backpack and took it to south east Asia for three weeks, great purchase! Although it is a little heavy (5.6 pounds), it is very well built, the quality of its materials is very good and the attached rain fly is very useful. It feels good and the weight is well balanced between your hips and your shoulders, so its easy to carry and to adapt to different users. For this price, I recommend it, great purchase! The only downside of this backpack is its weight, that’s why I don’t give it five stars. -
Teton Bookbag Backpack

Product Description
All this for so little? This book bag has features usually found on a pack twice the price. Two main compartment are big enough for a laptop or the largest text or notebooks. A third compartment has a ton of organizer pockets for pencils, calculator, keys, GPS, sticky notes, goodies, and yes, your iPod or MP3 player. Of course, we remembered the headphone port too. If 3 pockets isn’t enough, we added a fourth mini-pocket for just about anything else. The shoulder straps include a very comfortable suspension strap system and are fully adjustable. The left shoulder strap has a cell pocket sewn onto it for quickie and easy access when you hear that custom ring. The zippers are heavy duty, will never break or snag and glide open and shut very smoothly.

Teton Suspension System!

I decided to order this Teton (designed by Coleman) backpack based on the glowing reviews seen here and I have to agree with them all. There’s so much room to rent in this bag that you can lose items within it without even knowing the items are in there. I’m talking of items such as a DVD or even a CD wallet! It’s roomy and it expands! It includes straps to keep it all securely tied together. It has super heavy duty zippers like I have never seen before in my 50+ years.
The “Suspension System” is an unusual feature in backpacks which I was curious about. Mystery revealed, at the top of both of the backstraps, is a system constructed of a piece of strong elastic and nylon strap. The elastic will stretch slightly when the backpack is subjected to a heavy load and jolts such as when walking down stairs. The nylon strap which accompanies the elastic will not stretch, so this will limit the amount of stretch in the elastic! Genious! I like it.
This is such an amazing backpack, and I am so happy with this purchase, that I want to look for things around the house and neighborhood to carry in this bag! You’ll find it fun and comfortable to carry all of your stuff around in it too!
P.S. This backpack in black or red is currently $24, but in blue is $12. I like the blue one!
Rough and Touch.!

We have been through 3 backpacks this year. Each one we buy has fallen apart. I have a son, who likes to run, jump and play. He’s 9 and his backpacks take a beating. I ordered this one because of the price, since we seem to go through so many. I am REALLY impressed. This is a heavy duty bag, it is standing up to my Sons daily use and abuse perfectly. We have only had it for a couple of months but it still looks new. I also love the suspension straps on each side of the bag. Perfect for smaller lockers, so you can cinch it in and make it smaller yet its easy to adjust for when he has more stuff to carry. It is also easy enough to adjust that my son does it on the fly. Great bag, if your on the fence about getting it..I highly recommend it.Excellent Backpack, Low Cost

I was pleasently surprised to see how well constructed this bag is. It has tons of space for just about anything. For such a value price, I was shocked to see how well this bag stands up. It even boasts some comfort features like the soft padding in the shoulder bands and a suspension system to take weight off of your shoulders. Excellent Bag especially for such a cheap price! -

Just a great bag

I bought this bag for a 10 day backpacking trip to Europe. I filled the bag to it’s max capacity and found that I had packed enough clothing for at least a 15-18 day trip. The bag showed great structural integrity overall and stayed well balanced on my body frame through some long hikes. All the compartments made my belongings easy to organize. Some of the outside straps and clips can be a bit excessive, but I would suggest tying up the slack before you check it in at the airport. They did come in handy when I was on the road. I was able to tie up heavy jackets and even my camera tripod securely. One of the clips on the shoulder straps that is used to secure water bladder tubing snapped in transport; however, it was of little significance to me overall and there is an extra one on the other side. I would definitely recommend this bag if you’re looking for one item to hold all your stuff.
