Boasting a performance-enhancing back ventilation system, an excellent suspension and load carrying system, torso length adjustability and a long list of features, the Deuter Futura 50+10 Vario is well-equipped for weekend and multi-day backpacking. Designed for multi-day back country excursions, the Futura 50+10 Vario has a standard capacity of 3050 cubic inches, increasing to 3650 cubic inches with the use of the extendible spindrift collar. Deuter introduced its Aircomfort back and suspension system in 1985 and has been fine-tuning and improving upon it ever since. The Futura 50+10 Vario combines the Aircomfort back system with Deuter’s Vari-Quick harness system. A strongly-woven strap “ladder”, the Vari-Quick harness system allows you to select the desired position for optimal comfort and load distribution. The Aircomfort back system, consisting of a lightweight PE frame sheet and preformed aluminum stays, provides stability and flexibility, adding tension to a mesh back panel. Moist air can freely escape through the space created between the pack body and your back, preventing heat build up. Soft, breathable fabrics and ventilated pads in the back, shoulder straps and hipbelt further help to keep you cool and comfortable on the trail. Load-lifter straps, and shoulder and lumbar padding further aid in the effective distribution of weight throughout the pack. Side compression straps enable you to reduce and expand the size of the pack body as needed, further securing contents and ensuring stabilization of the load. A zippered divider between the Futura 50+10 Vario’s top loading main compartment and front entry sleeping bag compartment allows for organization and separation of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unzip the divider and convert the Futura 50+10 Vario to a single, large compartment. great adjustments, fit and comfort.
After a multi-day hike in steep terrain in the White Moutains, I downsized my pack choice to the Deuter Futura 50+10 Vario. My goal was to pack lighter but also find a stable, well fitting pack. There are lighter choices but you would be hard pressed to find a more customizable and comfortable pack. The adjustment options are excellent. I easily achieved a perfect fit for my lanky 6′-2″ frame and I’m confident you could make this pack fit a huge range of body types. The back venting system works extremely well. No wet, sweaty shirts even on a hot summer day. Lot’s of thought in the detailing and compartments. When we finished our last overnight trip I actually kicked off my boots before I remembered to take off my fully load pack. Nice bag!

The best backpack I’ve owned
This backpack is so comfortable that I didn’t even feel as if I was wearing a backpack at all. I’m very slim(123) and it is hard to find a backpack that doesn’t dig into my shoulders when I’m hiking or running. The straps on this backpack are very light and it didn’t dig in at all. The slim profile is excellent for smaller people. Storage capacity is perfect for trail running or day hiking. This is a well designed product that I highly recommend.

Great for running!
I bought this backpack for running and it’s amazing! It doesn’t move around or make your back hot. It’s very compact but can fit a lot of stuff and has many useful pockets. It felt really comfortable on a long run (~7:40 pace) on a 90F day. Highly recommended.
